Thanks for stopping by!
Before I get into telling you about us and what we do, let’s start with why you’re here.
Who’s Gigging Success For?
My blog and podcast are best suited to semi pro and pro cover bands, musicians and singers who are serious about increasing their bookings and getting the fees they deserve from playing at weddings, private parties and corporate events.
Why We Are Here:
Gigging Success is a place you can learn from other successful bands, musicians and singers by discovering what they’re doing that’s getting them bookings and filling their diaries.
I’ll also share with you some of the strategies and tactics I use to market and sell my roster of exclusively managed cover bands to wedding, private party and corporate clients.
If earning a full time or significant part time income from playing live and doing what you truly love then you’ll find the ways to make that happen here.
About Brad Lazarus
Hi, my name is Brad Lazarus.
I’m not a musician. There. I said it.
But I have worked with musicians and in music my whole career. From my early days of being a post room boy at A&M Records (remember them?!) working my way up the ranks, through to today as owner of cover band management company LM2 Entertainment.
Back in 2003 when I started my management company I signed a couple of acts to major labels.
They were dropped not long after that.
It was brutal.
We poured our heart and soul into those projects only to be spat out by the major record label machine when things didn’t go quite to their plan.
Never again I thought. I’d need a new direction.
So I hooked up with some great musicians who were having, at best, mediocre success with their cover bands.
We agreed I’d work on their sales and marketing and they’d work on making sure the band was shit hot.
So I got to work.
I did everything that I’m sure you do now. We recorded video, audio, got the website looking good, developed a nice looking logo and brand. Everything was looking good.
It started to work. The gigs were coming in.
I remember thinking ‘this is easy’.
Not having been in the cover bands business before I didn’t really know what to charge for the bands. I did know that we had great bands and that their websites and promo material looked great so why shouldn’t we charge a good fee.
It was only a few years down the line that I realised I had priced my bands in the top 10 or 20% of bands out there. Ignorance is bliss!
But then one day it felt like all our potential customers had just disappeared. I remember it clearly. The phone just stopped ringing. The website enquiries stopped filling my inbox. The prospects I did speak to all wanted a deal and to get the bands for cheap.
The wordwide recession had hit and we were feeling it’s full force.
I struggled through and picked up bookings here and there. The bands were doing an amazing job. Clients loved them. We would get emails raving about what an amazing wedding or event they had made it into.
But I felt was letting the side down.
I needed to find out how to get my bands more gigs in this new economy we now lived in.
I listened to other bands and musicians complaining about how little work they had coming in. It was true there was less work around, I’m sure you felt the force of the downturn too.
But all around me I saw businesses who weren’t suffering. In many cases they were doing really really well.
What were they doing that I wasn’t?
Digging a little deeper I discovered a commonality. They were all better at marketing and selling what they had to offer.
So I went and learnt how to be a better salesman and marketer.
I devoured books, courses and blog posts. I went to groups and seminars to speak with and be taught by experts in sales and marketing.
I started to implement what I was learning to try and better market and sell my roster of cover bands.
I started seeing results.
When musicians and cover bands around me were complaining about empty diaries and clients not having any money we were seeing bookings pick up and were getting the fees we were asking for.
This marketing stuff works I thought.
Now, today as I write I continue to learn and implement new sales and marketing strategies that get my bands bookings. All in one of the toughest and brutal economic environments we’ve ever experienced.
We now take just short of £500,000 worth of bookings a year and have grown year on year for the past 3 years running.
I put our success down to two things.
We have an exceptional roster of brilliantly talented cover bands. And we do something everyday to make sure that we more effectively communicate to our prospects and clients just how good they really are and why they should book them for their event.
Why Should you Care?
Well, if you run a cover band and you aren’t enjoying a predictable flow of gigs filling your diary but know that you’re band is worthy of the bookings then you’re in the right place.
The truth is that it’s no longer enough to just be a great band.
If you want to earn a full time or significant part time income from your band you’re gonna have to get smarter at learning how to market and sell your band.
Just imagine how great your life would be if your band was performing week in week out, getting paid proper fees and you were being treated like Aerosmith (ok not quite).
This shouldn’t be some kind of pipe dream for you. There are countless cover bands doing this now.
Stick around and I’ll show you how. It’ll be worth it.
By the end of 2016 I aim to help 10,000 cover bands, musicians and singers double their bookings for private, weddings and corporate events and increase their fees to a level they deserve through the power of effective sales, marketing and promotion.
